IF: Swim

I decided to go out of the box on this one. I made a swimming pool inside of a teacup, as I was drinking a cup of tea before drawing this. I love the idea and wish someone would actually create a pool designed like this one.

IF: Eye Glasses

The idea behind this one was that I thought of the glasses as a television screen. This drawing shows SMPTE color bars, which have bright, varying colors which I brought out using thickly applied colored pencil.

IF: Yesterday

The theme for this Illustration Friday was "yesterday." I immediately thought of The Beatles song of the same name, which inspired me to use bright, vibrant colors like those on the "Yellow Submarine" album. This was created with a mixture of ink pen, colored pencil, and oil pastel. In general, I was trying to capture the feel of the 60's vibe, which is represented by the color.

Optical Mixture Self-Portrait Progress

First in-progress shot. Working on the base colors for the face.
Completed foundation for the face. Used skin tones, including brown, red, pink, and orange.
Progress on the background. I chose shades of blue to contrast the orange foundation and oranges found in the face.
Almost finished product. Still working on some minute details and shading on the left side of the face.
Final scanned product. All shading and details are accounted for.

Still Life Thumbnails

In this exercise, we were given a limited amount of time to draw a still life. After the time was up, we switched to a different location in the room to draw the same still life from a different perspective. After two cycles around the room, these were my results.

Optical Mixture Self-Portrait

Optical Mixture self-portrait. Used a different mix of pink, blue, orange, green, and purple to achieve the lights and darks of the picture.

IF: Talent

Just an infant on a unicycle, on a tightrope above a neighborhood, juggling bowling pins.
